Bible Class Notes
Theme: God’s Visitation Through the Pastor
Main Scriptures: Psalm 8:4, Luke 19:41-44
1. Old Testament vs. New Testament Visitation
Verse: Exodus 13:21 — “And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud… and by night in a pillar of fire.”
-
In the Old Testament, God did not dwell within His people. He revealed Himself through signs.
-
Under the New Covenant, God lives within believers (1 Corinthians 6:19), and we are led by the Holy Spirit rather than physical manifestations.
2. Understanding What a Visitation From God Is
Verse: Luke 19:44 — “…because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
-
Visitation is not always dramatic.
-
God often visits us through His appointed servants — especially pastors.
-
Many people miss their visitation by looking for the spectacular and ignoring the spiritual.
3. Learning to Discern God’s Voice Through People
Verse: John 10:27 — “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
-
We must discern whether the person speaking is being used by God.
-
Many reject correction or conviction because they confuse the messenger with the message.
-
Offense can cause people to reject what God is saying.
4. The Role of the Pastor as a Constant Visitation
Verse: Jeremiah 3:15 — “And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”
-
Unlike prophets or evangelists who may come and go, pastors are permanent shepherds for our growth.
-
They walk with us through all seasons — good and bad.
-
Every time your pastor preaches under the anointing, it is a visitation from God.
5. Hearing With Spiritual Ears
Verse: Revelation 2:29 — “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”
-
You may come expecting a word on one subject, but the Spirit will speak exactly what you need.
-
God can speak through sermons, children, or casual conversations — if your ears are tuned spiritually.
6. The Principle of Quietness
Verse: Ecclesiastes 3:7 — “A time to keep silence, and a time to speak.”
-
Quiet time is necessary for intimacy with God.
-
Silence helps us hear what God wants to say.
-
Some people avoid quiet because they haven’t dealt with internal wounds, but silence can lead to healing.
7. Dealing With the Internal Giant (Unhealed Areas)
Verse: 1 Samuel 17:45 — “You come to me with a sword… but I come to you in the name of the Lord.”
-
Many believers are still carrying past hurts.
-
The devil will use unresolved pain to disrupt your peace and joy.
-
Healing begins when you confront the pain with truth and faith.
8. Faith and Expectation in Church
Verse: Hebrews 11:6 — “But without faith it is impossible to please him…”
-
Come to church with expectation: “God is going to speak to me today.”
-
Speak it before you arrive. Faith prepares the heart to receive.
-
The same message can minister different things to different people depending on what they’re believing for.
9. The Importance of Self-Honesty and Correction
Verse: Proverbs 3:11-12 — “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline… because the Lord disciplines those he loves.”
-
Spiritual growth requires us to face ourselves honestly.
-
If you can’t take correction, your growth will be stunted.
-
The Holy Spirit builds us up, and sometimes that involves breaking down false ideas and pride.
